Moldovan government considers labor shortage issue

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu held a meeting to consider the problem of labor shortage, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The official started the meeting with information on issues reported by businessmen, who declare the existence of labor shortage. The deficit is quantitative and qualitative, directly affecting the competitiveness of local businesses and jeopardizes investment intentions. Meanwhile, the government Action Program 2020-2023 is focused on attracting investment, industrializing the country and creating jobs.
In participants’ opinion, the shortage will become acute in the season of road construction works, planned for 2020, where a large amount of human resources will be required. Labor shortage may undermine the achievement of the action program, so that companies require simplifying the process of bringing labor from outside Moldova.
Olga Poalelungi, head of the Migration and Asylum Office, approached the legal requirements on immigration. The national legislation on immigration of foreigners for work has been updated. The visa regime has been simplified, including the need for invitations for citizens of several countries. Currently, the list of states that need entry visa to the Republic of Moldova is reduced to 58 countries.
Existing labor migration scenarios were examined and their safety and complexity evaluated, so that economic agents could easily attract and manage the workforce outside the country.
It has been found that the labor force is the locomotive of the economy, generator of added value and taxes, thus simplifying the procedures, in a safe way, will boost the accomplishment of the works of modernization of the infrastructure and national economic growth.
At the end of the meeting, the premier asked responsible people of BMA, ASP, CNAM and other institutions to take steps for simplification of procedures and reduction of the terms of processing files, alerting those responsible for the need to preserve the safety of domestic labor market.
Ion Chicu asked for a public event in which the immigration scenarios for work will be presented to all interested companies.
