Moldovan PM meets Hungarian foreign affairs minister

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, on a visit to Moldova. The officials expressed intention to boost the Moldovan-Hungarian cooperation in more sectors, based on mutual interest, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

Ion Chicu thanked for the multilateral support provided by Hungary to Moldova through more projects. In the context, the PM highlighted the examining of possibility to provide Moldova with technical assistance and expertise of Hungarian specialists as to the EU integration, public money management, aspects of the fiscal reform, as well as in the farming sector.  

Péter Szijjártó welcomed the proposal and pointed out the current capacities of his state for the exchange of good practices with Moldova. At the same time, the Hungarian official informed that Budapest would soon delegate two diplomats to Moldova to provide assistance in the European integration process.  

The sides welcomed the intention to sign an agreement on inter-governmental strategic partnership, in the context of a visit to Chisinau by the prime minister of Hungary, due in the near future. “Our partnership is already a strategic one; it remains only to point out this fact on paper,” Péter Szijjártó stressed.     

The officials emphasized the intention to organize a forum of business people, in order to enhance the bilateral economic relations. In this respect, the prime minister confirmed the cabinet’s priority to create a friendly business environment, turning Moldova into an attractive country for investors. Ion Chicu referred to facilities within the Free Economic Zones (FEZ), predictability of the fiscal policies, implementation of the Free Trade Agreements.    

„To increase the investments in the country, we will massively reconstruct the roads’ infrastructure in 2020,” Ion Chicu said.

At the same time, the PM welcomed the initiative of Hungary’s Eximbank to back Hungarian economic agents in Moldova, by providing advantageous offers of crediting. As much as 100 million dollars has been earmarked to this end.

In another context, the officials exchanged opinions on the developments in the justice reform, continuation of Moldova’s European integration, implementation of the commitments taken within the Association Agreement, as well as the country’s request to become member of the Eurasian Development Bank.
