Moldova, Hungarian foreign affairs ministers discuss deepening of bilateral relations

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The importance attached to the privileged relation between both states, as well as the joint wish to turn to good account and boost the deepened partnership between Moldova and Hungary in diverse sectors of mutual interest, including the multilateral cooperation, have been the main subjects at a meeting of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, on a working visit to Chisinau.     

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, the visit by the Hungarian official takes place in less than one year after his previous visit to Chisinau, which represents a gesture of encouraging and backing Moldova and its active role within the Eastern Partnership.    

The two ministers exchanged opinions on the latest developments in the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement and prospects for the Moldova-European Union ties. In the context, Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the government of Hungary for the support provided to Moldova in the European integration process and in the promotion and achievement of the goals of Moldova’s modernization.

As for the bilateral relation, the officials discussed aspects on fostering the economic relations and ways of increasing Hungarian investments in Moldova, as well as the still unexplored potential, able to stimulate the economic exchanges. At the same time, the sides expressed joint interest in organizing the fourth meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation during the next May.

At the visit, the officials signed a memorandum on cooperation between the Foreign Affairs Ministries from the two countries, which will allow strengthening the cooperation between both ministries in the field of mutual training of diplomatic staff.  

Also, during the visit, the sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Education, Culture and Research Ministry of Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary on cooperation within the programme, Stipendium Hungaricum, for 2020-2022. The memorandum sees providing of education scholarships to young people from Moldova within the new Moldovan-Hungarian education and scientific cooperation programme.
