Moldova-IMF ending programme success one

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, assisted by Deputy Prime Minister Serghei Puscuta, Ministers Viorica Dumbraveanu, Anatol Usatii, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova Octavian Armasu and other decision-makers, today participated in a closing meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Ion Chicu thanked the Mission’s team for openness and constructive approach during the discussions held with all public authorities involved.
Head of the IMF Mission Rubén Atoyan described the discussions as substantive and perseverant and confirmed that the Moldovan cabinet’s team had proved openness and resoluteness in the implementation of the reforms needed. The head of the IMF Mission said that most goals of the Moldova-IMF Programme, which has ended, had been achieved and the programme was a success.
In its statement, the IMF Mission confirmed the rationality of the massive investments in the development and modernization of infrastructure, stressing the need to strengthen the capacities of management of public investments.
The sides discussed objectives due to be achieved on the next period, among which the approval of the legislation on non-bank financial institutions for the sustainable and safe development of this sector. Another topic tackled was focused on the financial deviations which had accumulated in the sector regulated by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), for which compensation way is necessary to be adopted.
The officials exchanged opinions on the consolidation of the national banking system and the pensions system, within which the sides confirmed the common approaching of the subjects.
Both the government’s team and the one of the IMF Mission confirmed the need to focus on the subject of ensuring a sustainable, balanced and more inclusive economic growth. Measures are necessary to improve the business environment and facilitate the investments – essential for the promotion of the technological progress and increasing the investments in infrastructure and the development of the human capital. In this respect, it is necessary to continue the reforms in the fields of education, health care and social policies, in order to improve the living standards in Moldova, fight the migration and change the demographic tendencies.
