Moldovan PM has meeting with Head of EU Delegation, high-level advisers

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Peter Michalko and the high-level advisers, delegated to Moldova by EU and the member states, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

In the beginning of the meeting, the PM said: “The EU’s assistance is quite valuable for Moldova and we thank you for openness and good intentions. We need expertise, in order to make progress and we rely on your support.”  

Peter Michalko confirmed EU’s intention to continue backing Moldova: “For us, it is important to show once again that EU is willing to support Moldova in achieving tangible results in the social and economic development. The implementation of the Association Agreement and the transposition of the European norms are necessary and the advisers provided by EU represent your instrument in the progress of making progress.”   

The head of the EU Delegation informed about the willingness to provide expertise also on other dimensions, besides the current ones.

The participants in the meeting discussed the reforms underway, as well as the priorities for the next period, in the context of carrying out the Association Agreement. At the same time, the sides stressed the role of EU high-level advisers to determine progress in each sector.  

The advisers presented the fields within their competence, described the present situation in each sector, referred to the communication with the central and local authorities, formulated priority subjects on which they are presently focused. Among the sectors tackled, there were the fighting against corruption, education and research fields, energy sector and renewables, Transnistrian settlement, state’s security and others.   

Peter Michalko described the team of EU advisers as quite motivated and competent.

The prime minister asked the ministers and heads of the public institutions benefiting from the assistance of the high-level advisers to inform about the march of the cooperation with the EU advisers. The ministers and heads of the public institutions provided details on the stage of cooperation and actions due to be undertaken next, among which concrete steps to strengthen the justice sector, actions of anti-corruption training, promoting the draft laws on the education dimension, modernization of the energy sector, etc.

Peter Michalko touched upon priorities, among which the combating of corruption and progress made in cases with high impact. “This support is of high value added and can determine the increase of the EU’s backing for Moldova,” the head of the EU Delegation said.

In the end of the meeting, PM Ion Chicu said: „I understand pretty well the importance of this assistance and we have great expectations. In particular, in the context of the carrying out of the government’s Action Plan, which is ambitious and complicated.”
