Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu visited Obileni village, Hâncești district, on 9 February, and together with local public authorities and relevant ministries considered water supply of the localities in the Prut river, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Person responsible for construction of the aqueduct informed the premier about the current situation, capacity of water pumping base, schedule and work progress. He assured that in May the water collection station will be functional.
The costs can amount to 40 million lei. In the project, 11 localities are included at the stage, which would mean using a capacity of only 30% of the water pumping base.
The premier asked responsible people to take urgent measures to extend the project to other localities in Hâncești, Leova and Nisporeni. "It would be a shame to have such a core and infrastructure already built and not use it to its full potential. The problem of water supply of the localities in the Prut river is a pressing one. Basically, there is no water in the wells, and the level of the Prut river has dropped dramatically. We have to expand the project to other localities, as the station has the capacity to provide 50 thousand people with water," Chicu said.
The prime minister noted that the money needed to complete the construction will be earmarked from the National Ecological Fund and the Regional Development Agency.
After the meeting, the prime minister inspected three pumping stations in Obileni and Cotul Morii. He announced he would return in March to assess progress.
