Municipal department of education not to be able to sign contracts for buying food for schools, kindergartens in Chisinau

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/- The education, youth and sport directorate of Chisinau municipality will outsource food purchases for educational institutions.

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban said at a today’s meeting of the city hall services that the directorate will no longer have the right to sign food purchase contracts for the subordinated educational institutions, this will be done by external institutions. "The education department of Chisinau municipality must deal with increasing the quality of the educational process, not with the purchase of food", he said.

Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici said that the measure is necessary to stop the purchase of poor quality or expired food products, which could reach the canteens of educational institutions in the municipality.

In 2019, altered or expired food products were delivered to several kindergartens in Chisinau with involvement of civil servants and through auctioned bids.
