Moldovan government adopts balanced, open character in relations with foreign partners

Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, along with President Igor Dodon today participated in an enlarged meeting of the College of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE). Attending the event were Moldova’s ambassadors from the European states, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

Minister Aureliu Ciocoi specified that the MAEIE College had not held meetings in the last ten years. According to him, this complicates the exchange of opinions and hits the decision-making process.  

The participants in the meeting discussed the present state of Moldova’s relations with the EU member states. Minister Ciocoi informed the representatives of the diplomatic corps about the progress made in the implementation of the actions provided for in the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement.

Among the priorities set for 2020, the participants in the meeting pointed out the progress made in Moldova’s European integration and development of the relations with the foreign partners, noting the balanced and open character approached by the cabinet in edifying partnerships. The participants in the meeting stressed the need to draw the attention of Moldova’s diplomatic representations to identifying economic opportunities and namely backing the increase of Moldovan exports and attraction of investments into the country’s industrialization.   

The PM informed the representatives of the diplomatic corps about the evolution of the national economy. Ion Chicu emphasized the small budget deficit recorded in 2020, diminution of the public debt to the Gross Domestic Product, massive public investments in the infrastructure, planned for this year, progress achieved in the attraction of foreign investments in the industrialization of Moldova’s districts.

Chicu underlined the importance of boosting the bilateral relations with other states, meant to help increase the mutual trade exchanges and widen the export markets of native products. At the same time, the prime minister confirmed the necessity to enhance the productivity of the commercial and economic offices at Moldova’s embassies.
