Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets Latvian counterpart

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The bilateral agenda of the Moldovan-Latvian relations and ways of their boosting, cooperation in the European integration sector and collaboration within international organization today were discussed at a meeting between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi and his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.   

The two ministers welcomed the ascendant character of the Moldovan-Latvian cooperation and agreed on concrete actions due to be undertaken in the near future. The officials referred to the need to stimulate the commercial exchanges, including through the holding of the next meeting of the Moldovan-Latvian intergovernmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation in Riga, organization of a forum of businesspeople, cooperation between the capitals Chisinau and Riga, as well as the resumption of the direct air flights between Moldova and Latvia.   

At the same time, the Moldovan diplomacy head thanked for the political support and financial assistance the government of Latvia was providing to carry out the structural reforms and the priority goals of Moldova, especially in the field of justice reform, financial sector, agriculture, tourism, defence, cyber security, etc.    

For his part, Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs said that Latvia continued to be an active backer of Moldova’s European integration. He stressed his country’s willingness to further provide needed support and expertise for the process of reforms for the implementation of the Association Agreement.
