Age limit of involvement in contract-based military service might be increased in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - The age limit of involvement in military service under contract might be increased. The parliament today adopted a draft law to this effect in the first reading.
The legislative initiative belongs to a group of MPs of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), as well as to the former lawmaker, Victor Gaiciuc, who presently acts as defence minister. At the same time, the MPs of the ACUM bloc criticized the initiative.
Thus, in order to complete the Armed Forces with citizens with deficit specialties, under a decision by the head of the military structure, the age limit of involvement in military service under contract can be increased. This provision might be applied once during the fulfillment of the military service.
At the same time, the MPs are to abrogate the article from the law on the status of servicemen, which sees that the age limit of involvement in military service under contract can be prolonged up to 5 years, at a decision by the head of the military structure.
To enter into force, the draft law is to be passed by the parliament in the second reading too.
