Moldovan president meets German chancellor's adviser on foreign and security policy

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with the German chancellor’s adviser on foreign and security policy, Jan Hecker, on the second day of the Munich International Munich Conference.    

According to the presidential press service, at the discussion, the head of state stressed that Germany was one of Moldova’s strategic partners. In this context, Igor Dodon thanked the German leadership for the multilateral constant support in the process of re-establishment of the democratic institutions and the citizens’ confidence in them.  

The Moldovan president stressed the important role of Germany and other European partners in backing the country’s efforts to implement the reforms in justice and fight corruption. Also, the head of state expressed gratitude for contribution to the social and economic development of Moldova through various programmes and projects, worth 300 million euros in all, during those 28 years of independence.  

The officials were unanimous in the opinion on the need to consolidate the bilateral contacts at the level of the executive and legislative powers, as well as in strengthening the commercial and economic ties. In the context, Igor Dodon noted that the German capital was active in Moldova and urged the business circles of Germany to make direct investments in the country.

The sides discussed also the prospect for the Transnistrian conflict settlement. The Moldovan president pointed out the important role of Germany in the advancement of this process, including due to the country’s OSCE chairmanship in 2016 and the important contribution in 2017.
