Moldovan PM visits village of south-eastern district

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu on 15 February went to the Volintiri village, south-eastern Stefan Voda district, placed nearby the border with Ukraine. The PM met the leadership of the district, local councilors, more mayors of the villages from the district – Popeasca, Ermoclia, Festelita, Copceac, Stefanesti, and others, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The local authorities informed the prime minister about the difficulties faced by the settlements from the region and referred to development opportunities. The sides tackled the issue of migration, the ones of infrastructure and the worrying demographic tendencies.  

The mayors discussed with the PM the repair of the road Ermoclia-Volintiri-border with Ukraine, as well as opportunities of boosting the cross-border trade relations. 

„This road probably might be an element able to develop the region. We will make a feasibility study, in order to clear up the opportunities. We will discuss with Ukraine’s authorities this subject. We will not take into account only the economic aspect,’’ Ion Chicu said.   

The sides considered the issue of insufficiency of teachers and physicians, as well as opportunities of developing tourism in the region.

The prime minister informed the local authorities that, to repair the local roads, one billion lei would be allocated and about 140 million lei – for streets’ illumination in 2020.

Ion Chicu answered questions put by local residents and then discussed with mayors of villages the settlement of problems signaled.
