Moldovan PM participates in meeting of Interior Ministry's College

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in a meeting of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) College; attending the event was the leadership of the ministry and the subordinated and coordinated institutions. The head of the parliamentary commission for national security, defence and public order, Alexandru Jizdan, took part in the event, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

In the report presented, Interior Minister Pavel Voicu informed about the results of MAI’s work in 2019 and priorities for 2020, noting the problems faced by the ministry.  

In 2019, the team of the ministry and the subordinated institutions focused on updating the national norms and their adjusting to the European directives, strengthening MAI’s institutional capacities, optimizing the activity, combating and preventing of corruption. The goals pursued are the enhancement of people’s trust in the Police and improvement of the public order.     

Among the problems highlighted, there are the fragmentary and inappropriate implementation of policies in the sector, diminution of Police’s presence in the rural environment and deficiencies in the implementation of the community police principles.   

Pavel Voicu referred also to the management of the state border, stressing that, in 2019, the state frontier had been crossed by about 10.37 million people at the entrance and 10.39 million at the exit from Moldova.  

The MAI’s state secretary, Ianus Erhan, informed the PM that MAI’s action plan for 2019 had been fulfilled at a level of 74 per cent and presented explanations for deviations.    

Prime Minister Chicu thanked the policemen for the work carried out, dedication and devotion and urged the leaders of MAI and the subordinated institutions to contribute to the enhancement of trust in Moldova’s future, especially among young people. “The 2019 year was full of political unrest and your merit in maintaining the public order should be appreciated. You, the people with epaulets, are promoters of security, solidarity and confidence in future. Your role in the education of the young generation is essential,” the PM said.    

Ion Chicu touched upon the need to combat the erroneous perception of the absolute dependence of the public budget on the foreign financing, which stood at only 2.4 per cent of Moldova’s overall spending.   

The prime minister stressed the need to focus on the patriotic education and asked the MAI leadership to identify forms and opportunities to act on this dimension.  

The PM also talked about the extension of the First Home programme, noting that the district policemen would benefit from the programme’s privileges.
