Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - A string of tests for the detection of the virus causing the new type of Coronavirus (COVID-19) were brought to the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) today. The tests were delivered from Germany, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The set of tests is stocked in special conditions at ANSP’s Virology Laboratory.
The laboratory is a component part of the European network of laboratories specialized in the diagnosing of flu and other viral infections, accredited by WHO. The lab is eligible for carrying out molecular and genetic investigations from human biofilms and is endowed with advanced equipment for making analyses in real time.
"The laboratory investigations at the detection of the virus will be carried out by people according to the WHO’s rigours, with the criteria stipulated by the Moldovan competent ministry,” ANSP sources said.
The Chisinau-based Toma Ciorba Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases is in charge of the collection and carriage of the biological material to the National Public Health Agency. The hospital will carry out these procedures according to the national guide of regulations for the transportation of infectious substances 2019.
The death toll because of the viral pneumonia grew to 1,770 in the continental China on 17 February 2020, according to the official figures published on the same day. These figures confirm a slow-down of the daily rate of deaths, even if the World Health Organization warns that the spread of Coronavirus remains “impossible to foresee.”
