Moldovan premier meets official of European External Action Service

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today met Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership and OSCE of the European External Action Service Luc Devigne. The officials discussed Moldova’s progress in the process of transposition of the EU practices and norms and the actions provided for in the Association Agreement with EU. Attending the meeting was European Union’s Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„We appreciate EU’s support provided to Moldova and the approach to back the country’s citizens and not the governments. We want to be assessed based on our concrete actions. The government is determined to carry out the reforms stipulated in the Association Agreement, not because we pursue the goal to receive macro-financial assistance, but because they are important and necessary for enhancing the people’s well-being,” the PM said.
The sides exchanged opinions on the present stage of implementation of the reforms meant to strengthen the democracy, principles of the rule of law state, legal system and the capacities of fighting corruption.
Ion Chicu highly appreciated the Council of Europe’s assistance in the carrying out of the justice reform, noting that a comprehensive process of public consultations, recommended by CoE experts, would be made.
The prime minister and the European official discussed the meeting of the Moldova-EU Association Committee, due in the near time.
