Moldovan parliament to host international conference to present experiences of functional autonomies in OSCE countries

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii today had a meeting with Head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova Claus Neukirch, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The parliament speaker reiterated the importance of strengthening the society and ensuring the inter-ethnic harmony and peace all over Moldova. Zinaida Greceanii welcomed the resumption of the activity of the joint working group of Moldova’s parliament and the People’s Assembly (local parliament) of Gagauzia. To ensure an efficient and intense agenda, the working group is led by Deputy Parliament Speaker Vlad Batrincea, on behalf of the parliament.
”The Gagauzia Autonomy is a positive example of reintegration, development and reduction of polarization. Draft laws due to integrate the country even more will be discussed on the platform of the working group,” Greceanii noted. At the same time, she stressed that the drafts discussed on this platform would be included on the agenda only after consensus is reached and they are coordinated with all sides concerned. “We will not allow the repeating of the previous experiences,” the parliament speaker also said.
Zinaida Greceanii welcomed a proposal by High Commissioner for National Minorities Lamberto Zannier to organize a conference at the Moldovan parliament, in cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in order to unveil experiences and models of functional autonomies in different OSCE countries.
