Moldovan top court marks 25th anniversary of founding

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi participated today in the inauguration of the International Conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova. Other members of parliament were also present at the event, the parliament’ communication and public relations department has reported.

Greceanii conveyed congratulations on the top court’s anniversary, and pointed out its role in protecting the values of the rule of law, democracy and fundamental human rights.

The speaker said that the history and fate of the Constitutional Court is indispensable to the history of democracy and our country as a whole. In this context, the official noted the inadmissibility of situations when the Constitutional Court becomes a prisoner of political interests.

The Speaker reminded the unprecedented case when the Constitutional Court had, ex officio, to revise documents issued on 7-9 June, and to cancel own decision. "Beyond the contradictory assessment of society for that situation, the Court's decision of June 15 on the annulment of the previous decision brought the democratic processes in the country on constitutional path, becoming a source for social peace, to maintain the rule of law. The same decision confirmed the constitutionality of parliament, and today I have the honor to lead”, the official said.

Greceanii voiced confidence that further the Constitutional Court will have full capacity to honor other missions residing in its role and duties.

"Whether constitutional priorities, such as the rights and freedoms of person, equality of all before the law, justice and observance of laws - be a solid basis for citizens’ confidence towards the state and institutions!", Greceanîi said.
