Human Development Report 2019 unveiled in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in the unveiling of the Human Development Report 2019, made by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The goal of the publication is to identify the inequalities, not only the economic ones, but also in the education, health, access to technologies and climate changes, which threaten the sustainable development in 189 countries, including Moldova.
Attending the opening of the event was Deputy Regional Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and Central Asia Agi Veres, development partners, representatives of the central public authorities, academic circles and civil society.
The prime minister pointed out the inequality between the living standards and the range of employment opportunities in Moldova and the developed states as decisive reason of young people’s intention to leave the country.
„We will massively invest in the roads’ infrastructure, in order to enhance the comfort of accessibility to all Moldovan districts and increase the investment attractiveness. We will illuminate the settlements. We will bring investors and will build industrial platforms in all districts of the country – in order to brings stable and well-paid jobs close to people’s homes,” the PM said.
Ion Chicu thanked Moldova’s development partners for assistance. “Having your support, we will quickly manage to achieve the reduction of the inequality between Moldova and the developed states. We will also manage to sooner persuade our young people to choose Moldova,” the prime minister noted.
The report presented shows that Moldova ranks 107th out of 189 countries and territories according to the Human Development Index (HDI). HDI measures the national progress achieved in terms of health, education and incomes.
