Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today summoned a working meeting with the heads and mayors of 16 district centres, during which the creation of Multifunctional Industrial Platforms was discussed. The sides selected the districts where the industrialization level is the lowest one, there are no industrial parks or free economic zones (FEZ), the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, the head of state highlighted the Moldovan leadership’s intention to promote concrete projects on the country’s industrialization and urged districts’ representatives to participation in the implementation of this idea.
Igor Dodon stressed that, at present, the level of industrial production stood at only 68 per cent of the level of the 1989 year and most industrial production is concentrated in Chisinau – 54 per cent and Balti – 12 per cent.
Proceeding from this, the Moldovan president pointed to the need to develop the industry in regions – in district centres, as this will lead to the creation of new jobs, increase in salaries, diminution of people’s exodus abroad, increase in revenues in the districts’ budgets, etc.
In this respect, the manager of Balti Free Economic Zone Marin Ceban, who has attracted 200 million euros investments in the region during ten years of FEZ’s work, presented a concept on the creation of multifunctional industrial platforms. Ceban also familiarized representatives of the local public administration with needed information, in order to assess possibility to create industrial platforms in a certain region.
Igor Dodon urged those present to actively come up with proposals to initiate a process of attracting investors to the concerned districts.
