Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, on a visit to Chisinau, the presidential press service has reported.
The officials ascertained an active interaction between the Commission and the Moldovan leadership in the field of implementation of the reforms needed. The sides were unanimous in the opinion that Moldova was one of the most reliable partners and “clients’ of the Venice Commission.
The head of state also voiced confidence that, having the support of the Council of Europe’s Commission, Moldova would manage to identify the best solutions to introduce amendments to the legislation in force at the opportune time.
Igor Dodon highly appreciated the meeting with Gianni Buquicchio in Strasbourg in late last January, during which the Moldovan side reiterated its international commitments as to the reforms’ implementation.
For his part, the Venice Commission president praised the discussions he had had at the Moldovan parliament and government and expressed confidence that the reforms would be successfully carried out in Moldova.
At the same time, Igor Dodon informed Buquicchio that he had submitted to parliament, as legislative initiative, a draft law on the amendment of the law on the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), based on recommendations by the Venice Commission and the opinion of the Council of Europe’s Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law.
The Moldovan president stressed that, by this draft, the leadership was willing to adjust the concept of election of the CSM president according to the international standards. The head of state voiced hope that the draft would be supported and promoted in parliament at the current session, so that its enforcement starts in the near time and harmonizes with the concept of adjustings suggested by the Justice Ministry through the draft law on the Constitution’s amendment.
