Moldovan cabinet proposes extending moratorium on citizenship through investments

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The government proposes extension of the moratorium on citizenship through investments till 2021.
At a today’s news conference, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that the cabinet would propose prolongation of the moratorium on the programme citizenship through investments till 2021. The government will vote a draft law to this effect next week, after which it will submit it to parliament.
Chicu said that “the verifications for the candidates to citizenship are much stricter that the usual procedure.” Nevertheless, the prime minister considers that “the risks and advantages of this law’s extension are equal, including from the financial viewpoint.”
„We worked out a draft law which provides for this moratorium; we will approve this draft next week at the cabinet meeting and we hope that the parliament, for its part, will accept it,” Chicu said.
The draft law on the abrogation of the law on citizenship through investment was excluded from the agenda of the 20 February parliament meeting. MP Alexandru Jizdan said that the report by the parliament’s commission for national security, defence and public order on this subject was not ready. Also on 20 February, the moratorium established on the concerned programmed expired.
