Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The participants in the 20 February meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) focused their discussions on two principal subjects, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
First of all, the participants in the meeting unsuccessfully attempted to include on the agenda an initiative, formulated by Russia’s delegation back in last July, concerning the analysis of the state of things in the Security Zone as a result of the presence of the illegal posts of “border guards.” Although Moldova’s delegation, the representatives of Ukraine and OSCE Mission in the Commission back this proposal, describing it as compromise one, Tiraspol’s representatives turn it down vehemently.
In the emerged circumstances, marked by lack of consensus on these problems, the JCC co-head on behalf of Moldova called on the dialogue partners to adopt an objective position, in line with the reality and aimed at overcoming the blockage in the work of the leadership body of the peacekeeping operation. In this respect, the OSCE Mission’s representatives were asked to make use of international practices which might contribute to get out of the impasse.
At the meeting, the co-head on behalf of Russia noted that he would come up with a revised formula of his proposal, without changing its essence, but which would be accepted by all JCC components.
The second subject of the discussions deals with an addressing by Moldova’s delegation submitted at the previous meeting, regarding a petition by the residents of the villages of Cosnita, Parata, Dorotcaia and Pohrebea on the way the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, placed on both banks of Dniester nearby the Vadul lui Voda settlement, work. It is worth mentioning that Moldova’s delegation submitted for consideration several proposals on making amendments to the organization of these posts, which would optimize the residents’ free movement.
The Commission members agreed to continue the discussions on the subject at a meeting between the co-heads, representatives of the OSCE Mission and Ukraine, scheduled for 24 February 2020.
The participants in the meeting approved a report by the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone for 12-18 February 2020. Given that cases have been recorded when citizens refuse to present for control papers and transport means at the crossing of posts of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, the participants in the meeting discussed opportunity to inform citizens about the rights of the servicemen of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces from the Security Zone.
At the same time, to exclude the risk of emergency situations dealing with the use of weaponry in the Security Zone, the JCC members issued an appeal to residents to voluntarily deliver the illegally owned arms and ammunitions to the competent bodies.
