Moldova's foreign affairs ministry warns Moldovans from Italy to observe authorities' recommendations as to coronavirus

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) warns Moldova’s citizens from Italy to strictly observe the recommendations of the Italian authorities, given that the number of confirmed cases of the new-type coronavirus Covid-19 has increased.    

Presently, the Embassy of Moldova in Rome, along with the General Consulate from Milan and the General Consulate of Padua, are in permanent touch with the Italian authorities with powers in managing the situation concerning the coronavirus. So far, no notifications have been received on behalf of them on infected people and neither requests of consular assistance have been received from Moldovan citizens.

MAEIE reiterates that Moldova’s citizens who face a difficult situation in Italy can ask for consular assistance at the emergency phone numbers of Moldova’s Embassy in Rome: +39 3294421091; General Consulate from Milan - +393206108989 and the Consulate from the Padua city +393805905331, as well as at the MAEIE Call Centre - 0 80 090990 (calls from Moldova) or +373 22 788722 (calls from abroad).

Italy has introduced severe restrictions, in order to take the situation under control, after 79 cases of infection with coronavirus had been recorded and two persons died of pneumonia triggered by this virus.  

The quarantine regime was introduced in 12 settlements from the provinces Lombardy and Veneto and more than 50,000 people were obliged to stay at home. At the same time, classes were suspended in education institutions, public actions were cancelled, including sports ones.  

The virus appeared in China in December 2019 and caused the death of 2,348 people in this country. Although the Beijing authorities say the number of persons falling ill is decreasing, the number of people infected in other states increases, which worries the World Health Organization.
