Sixty six Moldovan settlements disconnected from power supply over strong wind

Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - The strong wind gustings today caused disconnections from power supply in 66 settlements from the districts of Criuleni, Cimislia, Orhei, Telenesti, Calarasi, Anenii Noi, Hancesti, Rascani, Floresti, Edinet, the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) Gagauzia, as well as the Chisinau city. The electric energy suppliers said they would work during the day to re-establish the power supply.
According to data collected from the subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), rescuers today intervened in more risky situations in the wake of the strong wind. Thus, firemen’s assistance was demanded to clear tree which fell on roads from the Nisporeni, Calarasi and Soroca districts. At the same time, rescuers de-blocked a local road in the Durlesti town, Chisinau municipality, after a tree collapsed on a public transport station. Nobody was hit in the wake of the incident.
Also in the afternoon, IGSU employees removed a ventilation tube which fell from the building of an enterprise from Anenii Noi. The wind gusting deteriorated also the roof of a five-storied block of flats in the western Ungheni city.
Also, the strong wind pulled out about 1,000 square metres of metal tile from the roof of a gymnasium from the Pistruieni village, central Telenesti district. Also, 53 slate roofs were pulled out from the administrative block of the Poly-technical College from the Balti city. The district commissions for emergency situations were summoned on the spot, which are to assess the value of the material damage.
In the context of the warning issued by the State Hydrometeorological Service, rescuers warn citizens that their staying under dry trees and damaged buildings posed danger for life and health. At the same time, people are warned not to step on cables and wiring fallen on earth, as well as to strictly monitor the minor children. Moreover, firemen urge the residents to strictly observe the anti-fire rules and not set fire to dry vegetation and domestic waste. In conditions of strong wind and low humidity, fires can spread quickly and cause big fires. In risky situations, people are urged call the 112 emergency Service.
