Moldovan parliament speaker meets Catholicos of All Armenians

Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii has met Catholicos of All Armenians, the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Holiness Karekin II, during her official visit to Yerevan.
According to the parliament’s communication and public relations general department, the participants in the discussion tackled aspects of the social and cultural cooperation between Moldova and Armenia. Karekin II welcomed the presence of the Moldovan delegation and showed happiness that the relations between Armenia and Moldova were developing more and more dynamically and the high-level visits contributed to their strengthening. His Holiness noted that the peoples of Armenia and Moldova were two Christian nations, whose friendship and cooperation had been lasting for centuries. The Catholicos welcomed the fact that the Moldovan authorities were helping the Armenian Diaspora maintain the culture and spiritual traditions and contribute to Moldova’s development. The Patriarch stressed the importance of extending the good ties between the two peoples, emphasizing that the parliaments of the two countries, the high-ranking officials, as well as the Church can contribute to the promotion of the partnership.
For her part, Zinaida Greceanii highlighted the great significance of the meeting of the parliamentary delegation with Catholicos of All Armenians, the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Holiness Karekin II. Greceanii reiterated that the two nations were united, including by the common Orthodox Christian faith. The speaker also said that the Armenian Diaspora from Moldova was quite united and was very carefully preserving the culture, traditions and customs of its nation.
Attending the meeting, MP, the head of the parliamentary friendship group with Armenia, head of the Armenians’ Community from Moldova Gaik Vartanean confirmed that the Armenian Diaspora felt really at home in Moldova.
At the Residence of the Catholicos, the parliament’s delegation visited also the Museum of the Patriarchy, where more cult objects are preserved, which confirm the existence of the century-old spiritual and cultural relations between the people of Moldova and Armenia. The parliamentary delegation also visited the Megerian Carpet Museum from Yerevan and took knowledge of the old traditions of the Armenian nation in the art of weaving, as well as of modern technologies of making carpets.
