Moldovan foreign affairs minister discusses developments in human rights sector national, globally in Geneva

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Kehris, on the sidelines of the participation in the High-Level Segment of the 43rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva on 24-26 February, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
At the meeting, the officials discussed the developments in the human rights sector globally, the United Nations’ priorities on this dimension and the involvement of all states in the prevention of infringements, abuses, crises and achievement of the sustainable development goals, through an approach based on the effective protection of human rights. The sides paid special attention to the observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region of Moldova.
Minister Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the Assistant Secretary-General for expertise and technical assistance provided to Moldova by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in order to optimize the national mechanism of reporting and monitoring, strengthen the capacities of the national institutions for human rights and of the civil society, as well as to back the activities meant for the vulnerable groups.
