Moldovan PM says sum meant for education increases by about 1 billion lei in 2020

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in a meeting of the enlarged College of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC). Attending the event were the leadership of the ministry, rectors, academicians and the leaders of the subordinated institutions, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Minister Corneliu Popovici referred to the problems faced by the education sector, noting, in particular, the lack of teachers, issue of school textbooks, lack of sanitary units in education institutions, decrease of the number of students in universities. The minister also tackled the issue of efficiency of the investments in research and the need to endow the schools with modern equipments necessary for the teaching process.
The prime minister thanked the MECC team for dedication and involvement, stressing that the education was the government’s priority.
In his message, Ion Chicu said: “In 2020, the sum meant for education increased by about 1 billion lei. We will pay increased attention to the nourishment of children in schools and kindergartens. Starting from 1 September, the access of pupils with phones during class should be regulated and for this, safe rooms for depositing must be prepared. It is necessary to evaluate the work of the research institutions and universities, especially the efficiency of the administration of assets managed by them. The practice of the dual education should be backed and partnership with entrepreneurs must be edified.”
The prime minister referred to the deficit of textbooks in schools and their inoffensiveness, the quality of education in the higher education institutions, the need to enhance the efficiency of the investment of public money in research and the cabinet’s intention to support the infrastructure of the youth centres.
