Moldovan government approves legal regime of protocol presents

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, took a decision on the legal regime of presents. According to the decision, the maximal sum of 1,000 lei in one calendar year is established as allowed overall value of presents, provided out of courtesy or on the occasion of protocol actions.

At the same time, the government also approved a regulation on the legal regime of presents.

The draft decision on the legal regime of presents was worked out by the Justice Ministry, in cooperation with the National Anticorruption Centre and with the support of the Joint EU/CoE Project Controlling Corruption through Law Enforcement and Prevention. The draft’s goal is to strengthen the anticorruption framework in Moldova, in accordance with the European and international standards.

Ensuring the observance of the legal regime of presents is one of the actions provided for in the Action Plan of the National Integrity and Anticorruption Strategy for 2017-2020.

In various countries, the maximal value of a present offered to a public person differs. For instance, in Montenegro, the maximal value of a present is 50 euros, in Romania – about 200 euros and in Ireland – 650 euros.
