Moldovan premier chairs meeting of national council of coordinating anticorruption policies

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today led a meeting of the national council of coordinating the anticorruption policies.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, at the meeting, the leadership of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and National Anticorruption Authority (ANI) presented a report on the implementation of the national integrity and anticorruption strategy for 2017-2020.  

CNA director Ruslan Flocea said that the goal pursued by the strategy was Integration instead of corruption. The Centre’s objectives are discouraging the involvement in corruption acts; recovery of the products of the corruption offences; ethic and integrity in the public, private and non-governmental sectors; protection of integrity warners and corruption’s victims; transparency of the public institutions, financing of parties and mass media, as well as the education of the society and civil servants.    

In the report, the CNA director referred to the problems non-settled, among which the financing of electoral campaigns and way of financing the activity of political parties. CNA deems as necessary to improve the legislation in the field of philanthropy and sponsorships, in order to ensure transparency in charity acts of commercial companies, with the goal to avoid the conflicts of interests and prevent the use of donations on purposes set.         

ANI head Rodica Antoci informed about the carrying out, in 2019, of about 80 training sessions for more than 4,600 public sector heads and employees. During the last two years, ANI has been managing the e-Integrity automated information system, which allows submitting the declaration of assets and personal interests in electronic format and simplifies the access to information of public interest.  

In 2018, ANI received 69,107 declaration of assets and personal interests in electronic variant and 2019 – 88,062.  

ANI has carried out 37 out of 41 actions assigned, or 90.2 per cent of the actions planned.

The EU high-ranking adviser, Pawel Wojtunik, positively appreciated the report and efforts of the institutions on the dimension of preventing and combating corruption. 

At a request by the prime minister, the ANI leadership touched upon the problems faced by the institution in the enhancing of the work’s efficiency.

Ion Chicu assured the institutions involved of the government’s every support; he asked them to mobilize for implementing the Strategy and focus on the non-accomplished actions.   

The next meeting of the aforementioned council will take place on 30 March 2020.
