Pensions to be indexed twice per year in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The pensions will be indexed twice per year. The parliament today voted a draft law providing for the indexation of all pensions on 1 April and 1 October.   

Under the draft, the indexation will be applied for all pensions, no matter their size. At the same time, the minimally guaranteed income used at establishing the Social Assistance Programme will be indexed as well. Thus, the indexation mechanism will be applied for all social payments, including the capitalized payments, allowances of disability coming in the wake of a labour accident and monthly financial compensations established for the participants in the Chernobyl accident relief works. 

The indexation mechanism sees that, on 1 April, the coefficient of pensions’ indexation will represent the inflation registered in the last semester of the previous year and on 1 October, the concerned coefficient will be the inflation recorded in the first half of the current year.   

Also today, the lawmakers ruled that the pensions of prosecutors and judges would not be recalculated, taking into account the monthly salary of the prosecutor and judge in office, as well as the privileged pensions, through unifying the conditions and way of calculation of social insurances pensions for some categories of citizens, such as MPs, cabinet members, local authorities, civil servants.
