Italian investors willing to transform waste from Moldova into fuel

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - A group of businesspeople from Italy are interested in investing in the processing of waste from Moldova. Opportunities of this cooperation have been discussed by Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Ion Perju and the Italian businesspeople who informed about intention to build an enterprise for sorting, recycling and transforming waste into fuel briquettes.    

The investors said that they were willing to cover the costs of the project, estimated at about 130 million euros. According to them, ‘’the project will help Moldova in the problem of recycling waste, being also an alternative source of supply with thermal energy.’’ Also, the businesspeople from Italy stressed that this project ‘’has no noxious effects on the environment and the procedure of processing waste is inoffensive.”

The investors also said that a similar project was carried out in Italy and 4.5 million tons of briquettes used for heating were got from the processing of nine million tons of waste.

„According to the presentation, the project is interesting and innovative; it might cut the quantity of waste deposited and the one which cannot be recycled might be turned into energy – an economic benefit. We will discuss the intention of a concept of project with all competent institutions; we will analyze the opportunities, impact, as it is necessary to identify and enforce the best way of using the waste. We will take into account also the minimization of the noxious effects on the environment,’’ Ion Perju said.

About one million tons of waste is annually produced in Moldova.
