Moldovan health minister presents information on coronavirus in parliament

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister presented information on coronavirus in parliament today.
The official specified that no case of infection with Coronavirus was recorded in Moldova at present. ‘’Nobody is interested to hide such cases. Any case due to be registered will be made public,’’ Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu said.
She noted that earlier there had been several suspect cases; yet, following tests, it proved that it was not about COVID-19. ‘’It is not in the interest of the Health Ministry to hush up the existence of any case of infection with Coronavirus,’’ the minister said.
Dumbraveanu specified that, if a case of infection with COVID-19 is detected, another alert level would be established and measures specific to this level would be taken.
Presently, a yellow code of COVID-19 is established in Moldova. The health sector official also said that stocks had needed medicines for flu and all hospitals were supplied with all necessary things at a level of almost 97 per cent.
Also, Dumbraveanu informed that the World Health Organization would provide, if necessary, a consignment of special assistance of protection equipment for the medical staff.
According to Viorica Dumbraveanu, 75 beds have been set in wards and 25 beds were arranged in case of isolation at the Chisinau-based Toma Ciorba hospital of infectious diseases. Also, wards were prepared at other public institutions – the Clinic No 2 of the Health Ministry (the former railway hospital) and the Maternity Hospital No 2 from Chisinau. ‘’These institutions have been chosen, as their placement allows also their isolation,’’ the minister noted.
Dumbraveanu also reminded about the recommendations given to all public institutions as to the sanitary and epidemiological measures needed in such cases. The situation regarding the measures to prevent Coronavirus in Moldova each morning is discussed at meetings of the National Focal Point on control of infection with the new-type Coronavirus. Representatives of the National Public Health Agency, Border Police and other competent institutions unveil information at these meetings.
