Moldovan foreign affairs minister receives new ambassador of Japan

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama, in connection with the beginning of his diplomatic activity in Chisinau, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
The sides tackled topical and common interest subjects for the Moldovan-Japanese relations, the multilateral problems, projects of concrete cooperation, such as the ones of development assistance provided to Moldova by Japan.
From the viewpoint of the bilateral relation, the officials pointed out the boosting of the political dialogue at the governmental level, diversification of the cooperation component in the economic sector and increase in the number of Japanese investments in Moldova. The ambassador appreciated the Moldovan cabinet’s efforts to ensure a friendly environment for foreign business and developing a proper cooperation with firms from Japan, which allocated investments in Moldova’s economy. In the context, the minister encouraged the development of a commercial and economic cooperation able to be fully turned to account.
Also, the sides emphasized the grant programmes and the ones of concessional credits provided to Moldova by the government of Japan for such sectors as health, education and agriculture. In the context, the minister welcomed the present visit to Moldova by a negotiation meeting of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on new projects concerning the digitization of the National Library’s books and modernization of agricultural equipment, with the sides having already started talks to this end.
The officials also reviewed priorities on the bilateral agenda, in order to consolidate the political and diplomatic dialogue in 2020, by paying visits at the level of the heads of the two diplomacies.
As to the international cooperation sector, the sides exchanged opinions on the cooperation between the two states within the United Nations elective bodies.
