No cases of infection with coronavirus recorded in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - No cases of infection with Coronavirus have been recorded in Moldova. The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry informed that seven people with symptoms related to the infection caused by the new-type Coronavirus had been tested at the Laboratory of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), but the results were negative. All the seven patients tested have recently returned from Italy and Korea.   

At a today morning meeting of the National Focal Point of the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu demanded consolidation of the capacities of the institutions in charge of the control of infection through Coronavirus. He asked to enhance the ANSP’s capacities as to the processing of the epidemiological cards to ensure the quickness of the sending of data to family physicians and the additional evaluation of the capacities of all medical and sanitary institutions in terms of supply with medical equipments and medicines.   

At the same time, Dumbraveanu said the Ministry was negotiating with international partners the purchasing of another 1,000 tests for detecting the new-type Coronavirus. She also said that, jointly with the Border Police, a simulation would be held to test the algorithm of joint intervention measures in case of detecting a patient with symptoms associated with the new-type Coronavirus.    

Information unveiled by the Border Police shows that 18,466 entered Moldova at border crossing points (10,182 people at the terrestrial border with Romania, 6,090 persons at the terrestrial border with Ukraine, 2,194 people at the air border, of whom 275 people returned from Italy). At the same time, 50 people addressed to the Toma Ciorba Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases, of whom 18 were hospitalized.  

Also today, the Embassy of Italy in Moldova issued a press release reading that a worrying spreading of inexact and alarming stories about the sanitary situation in Italy had been recorded on the last period. The document also reads that the regions were restrictive measures were taken are only two ones: one in the Lombardy region and another in the Veneto region and they occupy only 0.05 per cent of the overall area of Italy.   

According to data by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, starting from 31 December 2019 till 27 February 2020, 82,132 cases of infection with the new-type Coronavirus (COVID-19) (clinically confirmed and laboratory ones) and 2,801 deaths were reported, of which 2,745 in China, Hong Kong (2), Iran (19), Korea (12), Italy (12), etc.
