Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - A magistrate has a monthly salary of 34,000 lei. President Igor Dodon has made statements to this effect at a programme titled, President Answers. The head of state conveyed a tough message to the judges and asked them to do a fair justice.
According to Dodon, a magistrate from the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) monthly earns up to 34,000 lei. The judges of the Court of Appeal have, on average, 30,000 lei and the ones of the territorial courts – up to 25,000 lei. “These salaries are much higher than the one of the president, prime minister, MPs and much higher than the physicians’ salaries. We expect results from you; the people want fair justice, with such salaries,” Igor Dodon said.
The president also said that the pensions of the magistrates are high too. “We also have questions as to the recalculation of pensions. A citizen retires at the age of 63 years and a judge – under 60 years. Do you work in harder conditions than those with hoes in fields? Let us unify everybody. You have good salaries, good conditions; just do a fair justice. If not, write applications on resignation and leave,” Dodon added.
On 26 February, PM Ion Chicu demanded speeding up of giving the final touches to a draft law which sees the increase in the judges’ retirement age by 13 years. Under the document, the judges will retire at the age of 63 years and not at 50 years, as it has been so far.
