Moldovan president provides details on negotiations between Socialists and Democrats

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon, at the programme, President Answers, has provided more details on the negotiations between the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Democratic Party (PDM). The head of state said that discussions were held on the transfer of some ministries to the Democrats.    

According to Dodon, the talks between PSRM and PDM on the creation of a coalition have reached the second phase and it includes discussions on taking responsibility in the governance act. ‘’We speak about the transfer of some ministries to the Democrats; this is just the sense of the coalitions. The candidacies for the office of minister will be analyzed by common consent and a decision will be taken on whether they are fit for the team of Prime Minister Chicu or not,’’ the president said.   

Igor Dodon also said that, this time, PSRM would not accept the conditions imposed to them by the ACUM Bloc last summer. ‘’They were given the position of prime minister and the entire government. This will not happen. Ion Chicu will remain prime minister and Zinaida Greceanii – parliament speaker,’’ the president said.  

The head of state reiterated that a minority cabinet cannot work much time without the support of a parliamentary majority. ‘’In these conditions, two solutions appear: parliamentary majority or snap elections. The snap polls are also a solution; yet, in this situation, especially in the conditions of the coronavirus crisis, there will be 5-6 months of instability. It will be a full chaos. The snap elections trigger instability and additional expenses of 80 million lei,’’ Dodon specified.   

The Moldovan president added that PSRM was ready to again sit down at the table of negotiations with the ACUM Bloc; yet, the latter said it was already speaking out for snap polls.
