Moldovan PM chairs meeting of Commission for Emergency Situations

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today chaired a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In the beginning, the participants in the event discussed the degree of implementation of the decisions taken at the first meeting of the Commission since the establishment of the state of emergency.  

Interior Minister Pavel Voicu informed about the actions undertaken by the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) structures, highlighting the ensuring of the measures of quarantine of two settlements from the central Hancesti district and cooperation with the local public authorities. The participants in the meeting discussed the actions taken to prompt the observance of physicians’ recommendations in the passenger transport and found out the a reduction of the intensity of the public transport’s movement.      

Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu informed that 49 cases of infection with the new COVID-19 had been recorded. So far, 469 cases have been investigated and 95 people have been tested in the last 24 hours. As many as 21,180 people are supervised and 11,202 are in quarantine.  

The participants in the meeting also tackled the subject on the carriage of the medical staff to and from the place of work and noted the support provided by a taxi company, which offers to carry physicians for free.

The topic on the activity of churches and the threats existing at services was discussed separately.  

The United Nations’ representative, Simon Springett, appreciated the way the government managed the situation.

The pandemic declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) is one of the biggest global problems from the last decades and the dangers are really great. The United Nations is willing to back Moldova with all mechanisms at its disposal.

The head of the WHO mission in Chisinau, Igor Pokanevych, referred to the fact that the number of infections was still increasing and set fourth several measures undertaken by other governments, in order to control the spread of the infection. He touched upon the need to strengthen the inter-ministerial cooperation and apply tougher actions, in order to reduce the degree of spread of COVID-19.   

Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea informed about the restrictions imposed by the states from the region, including the EU member countries. There are a large number of Moldovan citizens blocked outside the country and the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) undertakes actions to facilitate their coming to Moldova. In some situations, solutions have been already identified, in the others – not yet, on grounds that the authorities of the states where the citizens are blocked are overloaded and manage the evolution of the epidemiological situation. MAEIE continues the communication with the authorities of the states where Moldova’s citizens are blocked, in order to find solutions.   

The commission took a string of decisions, consulted with the WHO and UN representatives.
