Moldovan Official Journal to publish decision on signing of Moldovan-Japanese agreement on loan for agricultural sector

Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan cabinet has approved the signing of an agreement between the government of Moldova and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the carrying out of the project, Modernization of agricultural technology and equipment. The concerned decision will be published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) on 27 March. 

Under the agreement, the Japanese government will provide, through JICA, a preferential loan worth 18.7 dollars to Moldova’s government. The money will be used for the implementation of the programnme on modernization of  agricultural machines and equipment (MAME project) in Moldova.  

Moldova’s Ambassador to Japan Vasile Bumacov was empowered to sign the document.  

Presently, about 40 cooperation documents are signed between Moldova and Japan, most of them on the providing of financial and technical assistance to Moldova. Also, Japan is one of the main sources of investments in Moldova’s automotive industry. Factories of wiring of two big Japanese companies, Sumitomo and Fujikura, which became residents of free economic zones, have been opened in the country. In the last several years, Sumitomo has invested 30 million euros in the opening of a factory with 2,500 jobs and Fujikura invested 20 million euros and created about 2,000 jobs.   

Also, at present, the sides consider possibilities to enforce a new programme on farmers’ support, Post-2KR, on continuous extension of Japanese companies’ investments in Moldova, on carrying out of new projects in the social sector.
