Another new 22 COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 128 biological samples today were processed at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency, of which 22 proved to be positive. Four of them are of import and 18 – of local transmission. Among the infected people, there are four physicians from the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital. Thus, there are 199 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.

The minister noted that most cases of local transmission had been recorded in Chisinau, Ialoveni, Stefan Voda and the left bank of Dniester. All people are hospitalized and nine patients will be discharged from hospital after they have been treated.  

Dumbraveanu specified that four of the patients confirmed with COVID-19 today were employees of the Republican Hospital; thus, there are eight infected physicians from this institution in all.   

Attending the meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that, on the last days, the number of infected people had increased among the pilgrims who went to a monastery from Ukraine and two priests, among whom one from Chisinau, had been detected positive for COVID-19.  The PM urged the citizens to observe the recommendations of the authorities, so that Moldova does not face the situation of European countries, the health systems of which collapsed.

Also today, the Interior Ministry informed that five policemen, among whom two employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, had been infected with COVID-19.

State of emergency was declared all over Moldova on 17 March - 15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
