Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic along with Defence Minister Alexandru Pinzari visited the eastern Dubasari district today. The officials inspected the Battalion 3 of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (FMMP), deployed in Cosnita, which is in quarantine, given the declaring of the emergency state in the Security Zone, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The officials inspected the infrastructure of the battalion, including the barracks, general staff, canteen and medical post and took knowledge of the work and conditions of training of the Moldovan peacekeepers, equipment and state of the military technology of the unit.

It is worth mentioning that, after the cessation of the 1992 hostilities, the Security Zone, with a length of 225 km and a width of 12-20 km, had been established along the Dniester river, from which the military and militarized forces should have been withdrawn. This goal was achieved by the Chisinau authorities and was not carried out by the Tiraspol administration. The latter maintains considerable forces in the Security Zone, including three of the four motorized infantry brigades and other military units and the total strength of about 3,500 people.

Joint Peacekeeping Forces act in the Security Zone, made up of three contingents: of Russia’s Armed Forces, Armed Forces of Moldova’s constitutional bodies and of the Tiraspol administration. Moldova’s military units are deployed in Cocieri, Cosnita and Varnita.

On the same day, the two officials had a meeting with the head of the Dubasari district, Grigore Filipov and representatives of the local public administration. The sides discussed the situation in the region, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and other social and economic problems. Among them, there is the situation of two residents from the Molovata Noua village, detained on 3 April, access to medicines, including the work of drug stores, as well as to medical assistance, which implies free movement of medical employees from the Emergency Medical Assistance. Other subjects considered refer to the movement of staff from Latin-script lyceums from nearby for taking salaries, way of interaction between the central and local public authorities on the state of emergency period, as well as other difficulties faced by the residents from the region.
