As many as 127 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 698 biological samples have been processed in Moldova in the last 24 hours, of which 127 ones proved to be positive. Thus, there are 4,248 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting of the Single Command Centre for the management of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 virus.

According to Dumbraveanu, all cases are with local transmission. Most cases were registered on the left bank of Dniester – 42, Chisinau – 39, Balti – 10, Cahul – 5, Edinet and Falesti – three cases each. ‘’Today, we have a new hotbed at a hospital with non-COVID profile from the Moldovan capital, where 11 medical employees were infected. The institution will not be closed, as the change of employees was made,’’ Dumbraveanu said.     

The health minister noted that the hospital from Stefan Voda would resume working starting from 5 May. The institution’s sections will be gradually activated; the surgery section will be opened first. Today, the physicians from the Stefan Voda hospital were repeatedly trained on the correct use of the equipment.   

Attending the conference, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that, as of 5 May, some of those eight settlements placed in quarantine might be got out of this regime. The PM also said that, beginning with 5 May too, the Commission for Emergency Situations would discuss whether the officiating of religious services outside churched is going to be allowed.  

Data by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry shows that 1,423 people infected with the new coronavirus have been treated so far and 128 people died.  

State of emergency is declared all over Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
