President on working visit to south Moldova Gagauz autonomy

Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s president continues his working visits to the territory. Today, Igor Dodon went to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, in order to familiarize with the social and economic, as well as the epidemiological situation in the region, the presidential press service has reported.     

Initially, the head of state had a meeting with Gagauzia’s leadership. Bashkan (governor) Irina Vlah pointed out more problems faced by the autonomy at present, among which the crisis triggered by the pandemic which directly hits the economy, the drought which toughly affects farmers, issue of carrying out far-reaching infrastructure projects, development of the sub-zones of the Valcanes Free Economic Zone in Comrat and Ceadar-Lunga, roads’ reconstruction, etc.

Igor Dodon said that the current leadership was interested and willing to provide every needed support for the settlement of the present problems in the region, stressing that the challenges dealing with the crisis faced by everybody could be coped with only together. At the same time, the head of state underlined the need of further implementing the infrastructure projects, in order to ensure Moldova’s economic development.

Afterwards, the Moldovan president visited the Comrat-based district hospital, where a COVID-19 Centre, planned for the placement and isolation of up to 75 patients, was opened in one of the institution’s blocks. Six experienced physicians specialized in infectious diseases and over 20 medical assistants work here in shifts.

Patients are placed one in each ward, which is supplied with separate WC and shower cabin. The Comrat hospital has the needed protection equipment and apparatus for lungs’ artificial ventilation. Presently, there are 33 people here, of whom 22 are tested positive.  

The head of state appreciated the concern of Gagauzia’s leadership for the providing of good conditions for treatment of people infected with the new-type virus, as well as the willingness to provide, if necessary, medical services not only to people sick with coronavirus from the autonomy, but also to those from adjacent districts.
