Chisinau, 8 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has benefited from investments worth about 630 million euros in roads infrastructure projects since 2007 so far. Interventions for more than 800 km of roads were carried out from these resources.

The financing was provided to Moldova in form of loans and grants by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) European Investment Bank (EIB), European Union’s Neighbourhood Investment Facility and European Commission.

According to the strategy of transport and logistics for 2013-2022, the projects were aimed at ceasing the degradation of the networks of roads, rehabilitating and modernizing the roads’ infrastructure and its connection to the European transport networks.

Presently, the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, through the enterprise State Administration of Roads (ASD), carried out 18 projects on rehabilitation and construction of national roads worth seven billion lei in all. The projects are financed from sources of the World Bank, EBRD, EIB and European Commission.

„The financial support provided by the European Union to Moldova in the sector of roads’ infrastructure is extremely important. The citizens from all over the country want, in continuation, modern roads, for the movement to take in safety and comfortably, as well as the easing of the traffic in settlements with the construction of bypass roads. We will work to develop the roads’ infrastructure, so that all citizens, as well as investors enjoy it,’’ Economics and Infrastructure Minister Sergiu Railean said.

The roads’ network from Moldova includes 10,635 km, of which 5,857 km of national roads, 3,708 km of local/district important roads and about 30,000 village roads and streets. In line with the financing agreements, the projects are implemented by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry through ASD.
