Municipal public transport in Chisinau cannot ensure regular connection with suburbs

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/- Lilian Copaci, acting head of the General Directorate of Public Transport and Communications of Chisinau city hall said today at the online meeting of the municipality's services that municipal public transport cannot ensure a regular connection between Chisinau and suburbs.

"Although the public transport crisis in the suburbs begins to improve - more drivers on minibus routes connecting to the city have started to go to work, we cannot ensure a regular connection between the city and suburbs," Copaci said. However, the official said that there is an insufficient number of public transport to ensure a regular return connection between the city and suburbs. "The 121 trolleybuses and 104 buses are few to ensure the connection of the suburbs with the city. We hope that at the 19 May meeting the municipal councilors will offer a solution on the purchase and assembly of trolleybuses or buses in Chisinau ".

Copaci said that on 4-10 May, the first week of regular activity of the Urban Bus Park and the Electric Transport Authority, a cumulative income of 332 thousand lei was registered.

Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban said a minimum of 160 buses and 55 trolleybuses are needed to ensure a regular connection between Chisinau and suburban communes.
