Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today participated in a weekly meeting with Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the presidential press service has reported.
Initially, the head of state said that the cabinet led by PM Ion Chicu marked six months of mandate this week. Ion Dodon stressed that, on the concerned period, the Moldovan leadership had faced and was still facing ordeals, including the pandemic crisis; yet, despite more speculations and negative forecasts, Moldova had not confronted with either energy or economic collapse. ‘’The Chicu government efficiently manages the epidemiological situation and in this regard, Moldova is positioned much better than some European Union countries. I am firmly sure that, under the leadership of the so-called ‘’Harvard Government’’, the situation would have been much worse, while the current cabinet will further cope with the challenges,’’ the Moldovan president said.
The second subject of the today’s discussions was focused on the loan from Russia, recently cancelled by Moldova’s Constitutional Court. In this respect, Igor Dodon said that, most likely, the government this week would start negotiations with Russia on the conclusion of a new agreement in this sector. The head of state reiterated that people were expecting concrete solutions on behalf of the Moldovan leadership and the authorities must cope with it.
In another context, the president informed that, on 14 May, a meeting of the Supreme Security Council would be summoned, during which two subjects of major importance will be discussed: investigation of the bank fraud and the situation concerning the Chisinau International Airport. The head of state underlined that palpable results had been achieved in the two directions, which explains the fear of some people and their attempts to jeopardize the political stability in Moldova.
The fourth subject of the today’s meeting was dealing with certain speculations as to the organization of the presidential elections, due on the period 23 October – 23 November 2020. To deny any groundless statements, Igor Dodon ruled to address to Moldova’s parliament with a proposal to hold the presidential polls on 1 November 2020. A decision to this end can be taken at the next parliament meeting.
The last subject tackled today was the situation in parliament. ‘’The country’s top leadership is firmly sure that Moldova does not need crisis, but stability; yet, we have ascertained the return of certain forces and political figures to the vicious practice of ‘’party switching.’’ Presently, about 13-14 MPs left the parties with which they entered the parliament, which is more than 10 per cent of the parliament’s composition,’’ the president noted.
The head of state reminded that these had been ways earlier used by Plahotniuc, who destroyed three parliamentary factions and presently representatives of right-wing forces welcome these ‘’party switching representatives’’ and hopes that the latter’s number would increase. ‘’In such a situation, I appeal to these political leaders: in what way are you better than Plahotniuc? If these people want a political crisis, let they assume the consequences; yet, we will cope with the situation and will not allow destabilization in the country,’’ the Moldovan president said.
