Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall is set to start works for the construction of car parks at the expense of roadways, pavements and green areas. The solutions are meant to back the easing of the traffic.
The Chisinau city hall today presented for public consultation a concept on the development and management of the system of urban parkings in the city. The document represents the city hall’s vision on the management of the system of urban parking, in the context of the development of a sustainable urban mobility. At present, given the lack of regulatory mechanisms, the parking is a chaotic and uncontrolled phenomenon in Chisinau.
According to deputy mayor, Victor Chironda, about 15,000 vehicles are daily parked in the centre of Chisinau and the solutions suggested are meant to ease the road traffic.
The official gave the example of the A. Sciusev Street from the capital, which has three traffic lanes, of which only one is used and the other two ones are utilized as parking places. ‘’Under the new concept, in the long run, the streets will be arranged and the places meant for parking will be marked properly, so that drivers do not leave their cars on the lanes meant for transport or even on pavements,’’ Chironda said.
According to the concept of development of municipal car parks’ system, among the solutions found would be the multi-storey car parks or construction of car parks outside the city. The civil society’s recommendations on the document subjected to public discussions can be submitted to the Chisinau city hall till 15 June 2020.
