Seventy eight new COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova in last 24 hours

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/- As many as 508 biological samples have been processed in Moldova in the last 24 hours, of which 78 ones proved to be positive. Thus, there are 6,138 confirmed cases of new-type coronavirus in all, of which 3,496 are active. The state secretary at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Constantin Rimis, made statements to this effect today.

According to Rimis, all cases are with local transmission. Most cases were recorded in Chisinau – 35, left bank of Dniester -14, Balti – 8, Ceadar-Lunga – 7. ‘’Today, we have 17 people treated, with their total number standing at 2,425. Also, 19 patients are subjected to mechanical ventilation and 256 are in serious condition. Six deaths triggered by COVID-19 have been registered in the last 24 hours, with 217 dead people in all,’’ Rimis noted.   

Constantin Rimis also said that another five medical system employees had been detected positive for COVID-19, of whom one physician and three medical assistants. The overall number of health system employees infected with the new-type of coronavirus is 1,349.

In the end of the news briefing, the state secretary urged the residents to further observe all cautious measures and specialists’ recommendations. Even if the emergency state ended on 15 May, under the decision by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, emergency state in public health sector was declared in Moldova till 30 June 2020.
