Moldovan PM visits settlement hit by heavy rains

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today visited the Hansca settlement, central Ialoveni district, hit by the recent heavy rains. The mayor of the village, Elena Mosnegutu, informed the PM that the rains had lasted six days in a row and the heaviest rainfall was on 21 June, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The rains washed away a half of the local roads covered with broken stones, prompted the overflow of the local lake in the Cinicis river, which flooded more farmlands. Seven dwellings and the gardens nearby the households were flooded.

Decision-makers of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) referred to the need to mobilize technology and people for works of cleaning the river’s bottom, in order to prevent repeated flooding.

The prime minister demanded an as urgent as possible assessment of the damages caused to households, cost of the works of cleaning the river’s channel and the cost of the damages inflicted to the local roads.   

Ion Chicu discussed the consequences of the rains with Mihail Catan, the mayor of the Molesti settlement, also hit by the disaster, and urged the mayoralty to register and evaluate the damages and submit the information to the government, in order to identify resources for compensating the losses.  

The PM was also informed about the march of mobilization of the construction site for the carrying out of the works for building the Costesti-Molesti road.

The contract sees the construction of about 4.4 km of road, with a budget of 21.56 million lei, due to be carried out in 2020.
