Moldovan PM considers situation on water level in Dniestre river

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/- Today, Prime Minister Ion Chicu considered the situation on the water level in the Dniester River, as a result of heavy rains of the last days and the danger of floods.
Attending the meeting was the leadership of the Ministry of Interior, MEI, MADRM, MA, specialized public institutions and local public authorities, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The Ukrainian Water Resources Agency transmitted on 24.06.2020 the information on the upstream and downstream flows of the Dniester River. Following the heavy rainfall in the Dniester river basin and taking into account the increased flow on the river, at 04:00 on 24.06.2020, at the Galici and Zaleșici hydrotechnical points the flow was 3480 m3 / s and 1560 m3 / s, respectively downstream of the Dnestrovsk hydrotechnical node, the discharged flow was increased between 1800-1850 m3 / s with a subsequent increase of up to 2000-2050 m3 / s, starting with 10:00.
According to meteorologists, the situation is improving, rainfall in Ukraine is abundant but slowing down, there is danger of water output.
The IGSU management informed the premier that the change in the discharge regime at the Novodnestrovsc and Dubasari hydraulic junctions has caused significant increase in water level.
On 24 June in Otaci the water level in the Dniester River increased by 3.5 m. This increase determined the need to take preventive measures in Vălcineț, Ocnița district, where the stormwater outlets to the Dniester River were blocked to prevent water from entering the locality.
The State Hydrometeorological Service forecasts for 24 June – 2 July level increases on Naslavcea village – Dubasari, with 2–3.2 meters on Dubasari - Talmaza, with 2.5 - 3.4 m.
On Naslavcea - Dubăsari segment, at present, there are no high risks except for Soroca, where a part can be flooded and the sewerage system is temporarily blocked.
IGSU is constantly communicating with local authorities and is in the process of mobilizing the necessary resources to manage the situation and reduce the consequences.
In order to protect the rest area on the bank of the Dniester River, in the locality of Vadul lui Vodă, the rescuers prepared a mobile protection dam, which can be installed in a short time.
The premier asked to mobilize all necessary resources, to montor the situation together with the local authorities, so as to take the preventive measures discussed.
The premier called for an assessment of the losses in the localities that have suffered as a result of the floods and for information to be provided on the necessary support for the affected households.
