National commission for climate changes set up in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government decision on setting up a national commission for climate changes will be published in the 24 July issue of the Official Journal ((Monitorul Oficial). In a six-month period after the approval of the present decision, the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) will ensure the working out of the departmental normative acts necessary for its enforcement.
The commission is chaired by the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister and its deputy head will the state secretary of the same ministry, in charge of the sector of protection of the environment and natural resources. The commission is made up of the deputy prime minister, finance minister; health, labour and social protection minister; education, culture and research minister, the governor of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri; the representative of the Local Authorities Congress of Moldova; the representative of the State Hydrometeorological Service; the director of the Moldsilva Forestry Agency; the representative of the higher education institutions (nominated by the Council of Rectors from Moldova); two representatives of the environmental non-governmental organizations (nominated by the National Council of Environmental NGOs); one representative of non-governmental organizations for the promotion and defence of women’s rights (nominated by the National Council for Participation); two representatives of the private sector (nominated by Moldova’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry).
The national commission for climate changes is an inter-institutional body, without legal personality, creation in order to coordinate and promote measures and actions needed for the unitary enforcement in Moldova of the provisions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
The commission’s goal is to coordinate nationally the process of implementation of the UNFCCC provisions and other international treaties in the climate changes sector, to which Moldova is party, national reports in the climate change field, as well as ensuring the carrying out of the duties and objectives, within the competences established under the regulation on the organization and work of the national commission for climate changes.
The national commission members fulfill their duties without being remunerated.
